Beretta 92FS as a 3 Gun Pistol
This pistol has been used by the US military for over 30 years and has stood the test of time as a very reliable, well made pistol. Many 3 Gun shooters like it because its weight feels evenly distributed even with a nearly empty mag, however it has some distinct disadvantages for shooting 3 Gun competitions as well.
Those who use a Beretta 92FS as their primary pistol typically swear by it and hearing stoies of cops and military guys putting thousands upon thousands of rounds through a well maintained Beretta are extremely common. The thing you will hear them say over and over is
As far as shooting 3 Gun competitions with a Beretta goes...it is accurate, it almost never jams unless you're limp wristing it, and it has a fairly high capacity mag (holds 15 rounds in the mag and one in the chamber). The drawbacks (especially when compared to a Glock) are that it has a safety which will have to be engaged every time you holster your pistol during a 3 Gun competition. This can really slow you down and cost you precious seconds in the middle of a multigun course because you may have to draw your pistol and re-holster it 2-3 times throughout the course as you shift gears between your 3 guns. However, that being said, if you practice repeatedly drawing and disengaging the safety and practice re-engaging the safety and holstering repeatedly, you can actually get extremely fast at this to the point that it may not actually slow you down in competition at all. There are some very good 3 Gun shooters out there who swear by their Beretta 92FS.
